The team of Vanitha Vasudevan PG3 and Danon Garrido PG2 won the annual "Sunshine State Surgical Resident Trivia Contest" during the May meeting of the Florida Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. Our team defeated 8 other teams from surgical residencies throughout the state of Florida. This is a remarkable achievement considering all of the other teams had PG5 contestants. The winning question involved the various levels of lymph nodes in the neck. The 2011 winners came from the University of South Florida.

The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has received approval for the first allopathic surgical residency program in Palm Beach County. The new five-year program at the University of Miami Regional Campus in Palm Beach County was approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and will be implemented in close collaboration with JFK Medical Center in Atlantis, where it will be based.
